The event, in Lower Street Car Park from 10am to 3pm, will be the 10th mobile waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling event to take place in the Chanctonbury area.

The scheme has been run by West Sussex County Council in partnership with Viridor and Horsham District Council in order to further encourage recycling of small WEEE items and to provide a more localised service in rural communities.

Lionel Barnard, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “Many people in West Sussex understand that valuable materials can be recovered when they recycle unwanted equipment, but there is still much to do and we can see this from the good recycling rates in West Sussex.

“However there is still much to do, and when it comes to WEEE, we would encourage residents to think twice before putting WEEE into their waste bins and to consider if they can reuse it and if not to take it to be recycled.”

The WEEE service can accept large electrical appliances such as washing machines and cookers, fridges and freezers, display equipment such as TVs, laptops and personal computers, fluorescent tubes, small electrical appliances such as hairdryers and batteries.

For any items that can’t be accepted, the nearest household waste recycling sites are at Hopoast, Worthing Road, Horsham RH13 0AR, at Brighton Road, Shoreham BN43 6RJ or at Newbridge Road, Billingshurst, RH14 9HY.
