Farm Diary by Gwyn Jones

The perfect spring! How often do you hear farmers talking about the weather in such a positive way? I could have said; a perfect spring '“ so far, or a perfect spring '“ but a little rain would not go amiss, but no, this is 'the perfect spring'.

Beautifully sunny days, cool nights to ensure the grass does not shoot upwards and get away; dry ground to finish fencing, clean out water troughs, and dry gateways for the cows and tractors to travel through.

Sheep farmers have had one of the best springs to lamb their sheep, arable farmers have been able to get on with cultivations, and livestock farmers who were in the main short of winter food, have now got their stock out.
