Horsham resident receives council apology for uncollected waste

From June 1, if residents do not have a sticker displayed on their bin indicating they have paid the £29 annual fee, they will not be emptied, but Mr J Smith of Greenfields Close, Horsham says his bin is not being emptied regularly now.

He first wrote to the council in January, but after no response was received he wrote a second letter, copies of which he sent to the County Times.

He wrote: “It is now over three months and not only have I had no reply, but even more so, no acknowledgment. Today the green waste at my house was not collected. This is not the first time it has happened.”

In his first letter he questions the suitability of a charge. He writes: “I suggest that HDC seriously reconsider their decision over introducing an extra hidden charge. What point is there confusing the issue when the refuse collectors cannot do their job now?”

A spokesman for HDC said: “Horsham District Council apologises for failing to resolve the problem when Mr Smith contacted us in January but has now taken action to make sure the service is reliable in future. We will be contacting Mr Smith shortly to apologise directly.”
