Simon Kirby, the MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, has welcomed news from Network Rail that improvements will be made to Falmer Station.
More than £2m will be invested to provide additional capacity on the line between Brighton and Lewes and lengthen platforms at the station.
Resignalling work will be carried out which will allow for more trains to safely use the line at any one time, increasing the available capacity on the line
Mr Kirby, who recently met with representatives of Network Rail to press the case for the improvements, said: “I am delighted with these announcements that will make a real difference for passengers on this stretch of rail, including Albion fans on match days.”
The improvements will provide passengers with better access between the train and platforms. The current signalling in the area dates back to the 1980s and the investment will improve the infrastructure to help meet the needs of a growing and increasingly in-demand railway.
