Mrs Down's Diary

Just as we are planning to go away for a few days, and I have brought in a cast of thousands to make sure mother-in-law will be looked after, disaster is striking. One cow is dead and another seriously ill.

The dead cow is a fit one. Nine years old . Healthy calf. No reason to worry about her. And then, next minute, she is dead in the field.

I contacted the hunt to see if they could collect her from the farm. No. They were no longer able to collect fallen stock. It had to be taken to them. So we took the fork-lift out into the field, lifted her into the back of a trailer and took her to the kennels. When they realised she was over two years old they would not touch her. We were under the impression the 36 month rule had been relaxed, but the kennels are apparently not.
