The main foldyard is starting to look overcrowded. Thirty calves have been born since the start of the year and more are yet to come.

At night, cows and calves settle down close together but during the day, the melee in the yard is potentially hazardous.

The level of muck in the yard has built up over the past few weeks to a height that John is unhappy with. The stock are literally climbing up on the straw to settle down.

John is prevented from mucking out the yards as there is nowhere to spread the muck. Under our wonderful new cross compliance regulations, the land is too wet for him to run on with the muckspreader.
