Artwork has appeared on a beach in Eastbourne made from driftwood.

A group of volunteers has used driftwood to create sculptures at Eastbourne’s Beachy Head.

BHASSEXPLORE is a non-profit organisation that works to clean up the coastline between Eastbourne and Cuckmere Haven.

The group has created sculptures dotted around Beachy Head beach using driftwood that came off a container ship a few years ago that was trapped at a boulder bank opposite the lighthouse.

Norman Penney set up the group and said: “I’ve travelled around doing lots of clear ups - rubbish is everywhere on our coastline.

“The whole point is trying to clear as much as possible in three years. I just want people to keep clearing the area after I leave.

“Waste can hang around for 500 years if it isn’t cleared. One individual volunteering for one day can do work that helps prevent 500 years of damage to the environment.”
