A dead porpoise has been found on an Eastbourne beach over the weekend.

The porpoise was washed up on the beach at Sovereign Harbour on February 28 and found by a member of the public.

A resident who saw the porpoise Karin Sjolin, said, “It’s so sad to see. A very rare sight here.”

The Brighton Dolphin Project went to inspect the area and revealed it was a male Harbour Porpoise - a small marine mammal similar in appearance to a dolphin. BDP said the porpoise was in good condition prior to death and ‘there were no obvious signs as to why he died’.

The group said, “We have had four stranded Harbour Porpoises and one stranded Common Dolphin reported to us this year so far from across Sussex.

“We have reported this to the Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme.”
