Eastbourne Borough Council said its Neighbourhood First team visited Gildredge Park on June 16 after someone reported the incident to the council on Twitter.

The person who reported it on Twitter said there was a ‘nice young man’ guarding the needles to protect the children playing in the area before the search began.

An EBC spokesperson said, “Council officers from the Neighbourhood First team visited Gildredge Park the same day and conducted a thorough search but could not find any trace of the needles that had been reported.

“Our teams are trained to safely collect and dispose of discarded needles and we encourage anyone who finds them to report them to Eastbourne Borough Council via our Report It app or by calling 01323 410000.”
