Littlehampton beach remained open despite an incident involving untreated wastewater ahead of the weekend.

Southern Water said it notified Arun District Council and the Environment Agency about a release of untreated wastewater from the 5km long sea outfall at its pumping station in Littlehampton on Friday evening (July 8).

A statement on its website on Saturday night added: “Beach walks this morning have shown no signs of debris and specialist modelling has demonstrated there is no impact on bathing water quality, so the beach remains open as usual.”

Southern Water, which is overseeing a ‘huge transformation’ project, confirmed to SussexWorld that the ‘small release’ in Littlehampton had ‘no impact on bathing water following testing’.
