Survey to measure impact of bus stop suspensions '“ A24, A264 and A259

Residents can comment on whether the changes have been good or bad via an online consultation.

The deadline to take part is July 6.

In April the County Council temporarily suspended all stops on the A24 (between Findon and Horsham) and the A264 (between Horsham and Crawley) where buses were forced to stop on the inside lane.

Two stops on the A259 that operated in a similar way were also temporarily suspended.

A safety review found that given today’s traffic conditions, these bus stops were a road safety risk.

County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, John O’Brien, said: “We need to know the views of passengers and local communities so we can understand the impact of suspending these bus stops.

“The results will be used to determine what, if any, measures should be considered to resolve any issues or concerns the survey identifies.

“If you are affected by these changes, please take part.”

The stops and services affected are listed below:

A24 between Findon and Washington: Worthing Crematorium (northbound), North End/Worthing Crematorium (southbound), North End (northbound), North Farm (northbound) North Farm (southbound), Windlesham House School (northbound)

A24 between Washington and Buckbarn: Washington Roundabout (northbound), Washington Roundabout (southbound), Rock Road (northbound), Spring Gardens (southbound), Old Barn Nursery (northbound)

A264 between Horsham and Crawley: The Cherry Tree (eastbound), Park Road (eastbound), Holmbush Farm (eastbound)

A259 Merston: Kings Head Green Lane (northbound)

A259 Ferring: Langbury Lane (eastbound)

Other bus stops on the A24, A264 and A259, where buses are able to pull over into lay-bys or slip roads have not been affected and continue to operate as normal.

In addition, Stagecoach’s No.1 route that previously started at Findon will serve the ‘flyover’ at Highden Bridge from June 26.

This is to partly replace the suspended stops on the A24 at North Farm and is for travel towards Findon and Worthing only.
