West Chiltington Community School and Thakeham First School were closed today due to having no water. Southern Water crews have been on site fixing the problem throughout the day.

A Southern Water spokesman said: “We are fixing a water main in Storrington which burst this morning and apologise to customers affected.

“Supplies began to be restored shortly after 10.45am when the burst was isolated and the area rezoned.

“Water has returned steadily throughout the day with properties in the north of West Chiltington among the last to return because of their distance from the burst.

“We have a crew on site completing the repair and are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
