Valuable lessons for the future- Farm Diary by Gwyn Jones

The heat wave has finished but at Plaistow we have yet to see any rain. Apart from a shower or two last week, all the rain has skipped around us to my frustration.

We are now sitting at correct rotation length for grazing our cows but as the new leaves which grow every 12 days are smaller than they should be due to the dry conditions, the amount of feed in each paddock is much less, although still of high quality.

The only exception has been the forty acre paddock where we have been spreading dirty water. We applied over a quarter of na inch nin three passes over a few days and it has made a huge difference.
