The move will come as a blow to walkers who had been using public footpaths around courses to exercise during the coronavirus lockdown.

Those walkers are being urged to stick to dedicated footpaths around courses to avoid being hit by flying golf balls.

A spokesperson there said, “The 18 hole course is reopening to both existing and new members, with strict guidelines ensuring social distancing, such as operating only one ball and two ball tee times.

“The course has been able to reopen quickly thanks to greenkeepers who have continued to maintain and protect the greens throughout the closure, all while adhering to social distancing measures.”

Members will be required to book tee times in advance, and should only play alone or with one other person, with course times open initially from 8am–5pm.
