‘Error’ at polling station means votes have not been counted

Voters in the election for Westfield Parish Council will have to wait to find out who their new councillors are, as votes were not counted with other parish elections due to “issues at the polling station”.

Malcolm Johnston, Rother District Council executive director of resources and returning officer, said: “Due to an error at the polling station, parish ballot papers were issued to a number of voters in Westfield who were not entitled to vote in the parish election.

“As a result, votes in the Westfield Parish Council election were not counted along with those of other parish elections today (Saturday, May 9).”

“We are investigating what happened and considering the options available to us to rectify this situation, which could include re-running the Westfield Parish Council election.”
