ESCC seeks best support for children

A drive to find the best social workers to support children in East Sussex kicks off this month.

East Sussex County Council is looking to expand its already high performing team.

It will be holding a job fair on March 18 to give recent graduates and established social workers the chance discuss their career plans and see what options are available to them.

Councillor Meg Stroude, East Sussex County Council's Lead Member for Children and Families, said: "We know social work is one of the toughest jobs there is and it is not getting any easier. These are really difficult times for all Children's Services departments. The work of staff in the service has never been under such scrutiny and the pressure on them has never been greater.

"However, we also know how much our staff care about the welfare of children in East Sussex. We want to make sure this continues and are looking for people with a real passion for social work with children. In return we can offer them full support, the chance to work in a great place with top professionals and a whole host of other benefits. Whilst social work has its challenges it is also an immensely rewarding job and all of our staff should be proud of the job they do and the invaluable service they provide."

East Sussex County Council's Children's Service has been named as the highest performing in the South East and the best performing County Council Children's Service in England. Ofsted rated its safeguarding work as 'outstanding'.

At the jobs fair, final year students, and those already working in the profession, can see displays and other information about the different roles available and have the chance to chat to those already working for the County Council.
