DUCK RACE: A big thank you to everyone who entered ducks and attended the village duck race on Sunday May 1.

There was great weather and a brilliant turnout. Nearly 300 ducks were sold and entered for the race and there were around 200 spectators. The FES sold every one of the 180 sausages it had ready for hot dogs and the cakes were also in demand!

The Duck Decoration Competition was of a very high standard this year and Vicki Atkinson from the Artichoke Gallery in Ticehurst had a difficult task choosing the winners which were in the end, Under Fives; Nancy & Billy Ellner. Five to Fifteen; Joe Marriage. 15+ and Adults; Georgina Briggs.

The Overall winner of the race was Poppy Withnall who received her winner’s trophy from our local MP, Huw Merriman. Poppy nominated the Brownies to receive £100.

The balance of money raised on the day will be divided between the Etchingham Improvements Committee (EIC) for future village events and the Friends of Etchingham School (FES). Once again thank you to everyone for making this such a fun and popular event. PHOTO DISPLAY: Many will know that for the last couple of years, during the annual Fete and the Flower and Dog Show I have put on a display of a large quantity of old photos, postcards and memorabilia from the area – in the Church Chancel.

This year during ‘A day at the seaside’ on June 25 I will again have a display in the Church, but this year it will be reduced in size and will not include all the books and items displayed on tables. The display will be limited to the items that can be displayed around the choir stalls, the display will still include a large number of historical photos of Etchingham and over 200 old postcards of Etchingham, Hurst Green, Burwash, Ticehurst and the surrounding area.

If you have missed the display in previous years there is still plenty to see, if you are a newcomer to Etchingham a chance to see some images of Etchingham in times gone by.

ETCHINGHAM IMPROVEMENTS COMMITTEE AGM: Sunday May 15, 7.30 in Etchingham Club. The AGM will be followed at 8pm by a planning meeting for the Fete, Flower and Dog Show to be held on June 25.
