To be held on Saturday, October 17 at The Hamblin Trust at Bosham House, the event will fundraise for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which rescues and protects animals around the world.

The event will include a presentation from the UK director of IFAW, Philip Mansbridge.

He said: “Throughout the world, bears are in trouble.

“They are subjected to the cruel extraction of their bile for use in traditional Chinese medicine.

“In Russia, trophy hunters have shot hibernating mother brown bears, leaving their newborn cubs to freeze or starve to death.

“In North America, there are only 20,000-25,000 polar bears left, and they are hunted for trophies.”

In Russia, IFAW’s Orphan Bear Rescue Centre has returned more than 200
bear cubs to the wild, and in the United States, IFAW lobbied to have the polar bear listed as
a ‘threatened’ species
under the Endangered Species Act.

Elizabeth Medler, the
event organiser, said: “In previous years I’ve held fundraising events at the Hamblin Trust and been able to raise in excess of £2,000 for elephants and tigers worldwide.

“I hope that this fundraising effort will do equally well, or even better, for bears.”

The evening costs £10, which includes the talk, a complimentary drink, pizza, music from concert pianist Marianne Szurma-Hasani and a raffle.

The event will take place between 7pm and 9pm.
