Heli Hike in Sussex, the hugely popular family fundraising event organised by Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) and sponsored by London Gatwick, is back for 2024 hosted by Cowdray Estate, Midhurst on Saturday 5 October bigger and better than ever before – and there’s still time to sign-up at aakss.org.uk/sussex-hike.

There’s a choice between a family-friendly walk of 3 miles or a more challenging 7.5-miles through the stunning Cowdray Estate , which has KSS as its charity partner, and dogs are welcome to take part in both of these walks.

Younger participants can become little lifesavers by navigating obstacles on the `Mini Medic Mile’ inspired by the challenges our crews face, promoting a fun and educational experience.

For the first time, the event will also take place alongside the charity’s Heli Fun Day which will include games, a bouncy castle and a chance to meet members of the emergency services, KSS crew and Skye the KSS mascot. It’s free to attend but tickets must be booked.

Operational commitments permitting, a KSS air ambulance helicopter will be at the event and use the site as its base for the day. There will be a chance to meet KSS crew members and talk to them about their lifesaving work. Visitors will be able to learn about CPR, defibrillators and `stop the bleed’ training from Community First Responders.

Every penny raised by the event will support the charity’s critical lifesaving work. Last year the service was needed more than ever before, with the charity responding to over 3,200 incidents across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

As 88% of the charity’s income is funded by its supporters, KSS needs the support of its communities now more than ever.

Lauren Simmons, Head of Events at KSS, said: “Over 500 people in Sussex needed our lifesaving care last year. Most of them had been involved in a road traffic collision or had experienced a medical emergency like a cardiac arrest or stroke. One day you or your loved ones could need us. With your support we’ll be there if you do.

“It’s going to be a fantastic event, with lots of fun in store for individuals, families, and groups of walkers, striding out across the Sussex countryside to help keep us flying and saving lives. By taking part in Heli Hike in Sussex and Heli Fun Day you can help to ensure we can be there when the worst happens. Without you we can’t keep flying. Without you, we can’t save lives.”
