Mea culpa: This week’s Village Hall Committee meeting was not open to the general public – and two people expressed an interest beforehand! I have been reprimanded for my assumption.On Tuesday May 22 at 7.30pm there is to be a Jubilee meeting when parish events will be finalised for the weekend June 3, 4, and 5. Pauline Scowen (830570) asks all those offering to help, make cakes, sandwiches etc to attend this meeting, or to let her know their intentions. There will be lists on the parish noticeboards, as well as the shop for people to enter their names.

Ewhurst Green has already made arrangements for a Sunday lunch, with Staplecross hosting events on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday June 4:

On the playing field at Staplecross 10am-2pm, there will be football, games, fancy dress, races, apple bobbing, bowling, and many more activities, as well as a teddy bears picnic lunch.

Staplecross Social club will be open to all parish residents from 12.30pm when there will be music:- 1.30-3.30pm Carol George (solo artist); 5-7.30pm The Management band; 9-11.30pm Sarah G and the Others band.

There will be an afternoon barbeque.

Lighting of The Beacon at the playing field at 10pm carried out by members of Ewhurst and Staplecross Bonfire Society.

Tuesday June 5:

Morning entertainment in the village hall.

12 noon the Cross Inn opens its doors; there will be a bouncy castle, face painting and more.

3pm The Lucky Ones band

High Tea in the afternoon on the lawn.

In all, it promises to be a very busy weekend and all that is hoped is for the weather to be kind.

Food again. This time Ewhurst, Sedlescombe and Staplecross Conservatives will be holding a Diamond Jubilee Lunch on Sunday May 20 at The Manor, The Street, Sedlescombe at 1230pm Tickets are £15 (children free) to include a welcome glass of Kir Royale, a delicious two course meal and coffee in the splendid gardens of The Manor (indoors if wet). It was the annual meeting of Ewhurst Parish Council last week, when David Young who has been chairman for a good number of years, proposed Brigitte Fifield as the new Chairman for 2012/13. David who has ably chaired the council over the years still remains on the council.

Last week’s minutes are not available to date, but highlights will appear in this column in due course. The approved minutes for March included approving the licence for the former WI hut in Staplecross which will be tenanted by the Bonfire Society and the list of repairs necessary. The stands used for the recent playground equipment consultation have been purchased by the Parish Council and gifted to the Village Hall on condition they are made available for use within the parish by the community and voluntary organisations. Also discussed was the affordable housing scheme planned for Staplecross and whether the rents would meet the needs of those qualifying. Councillor Jacqui Hyett declared a prejudicial interest as a family member had expressed interest in one of the properties and took no part in the discussion.
