Ewhurst Green, Cripps Corner and Staplecross village voice

A new Staplecross social group is forming next week. It is another opportunity to improve fitness as well as a social afternoon. It begins with a class called Extend/Exercise.

This is a session of chair-based exercises to music designed to benefit older people and for only £2.00.

The first session starts next Wednesday (March 14) in St Mark’s Church Room in Staplecross between 3.15-4.15pm under the excellent tutelage of Celia King. With line dancing on Mondays and Fridays and Pilates on Tuesdays, this should help to produce a very healthy and energetic parish!

The Ewhurst, Staplecross and Bodiam Garden Society meets in the village hall next Thursday (March 15) at 7.30pm with guest speaker Julia Jarman’s talk entitled The Beauty of Bulbs. Non members are as always welcome at just £1 entry. There will be a raffle and refreshments.

Next Saturday (March 17) Hilary Ganly will be holding a Water Colour Workshop from 10am to 4pm in the Church Room, Staplecross. It is especially for beginners, so anyone who wishes they had picked up a paint brush before, now is the time to try and receive excellent tuition. Those interested should ring Hilary on 01580-830704 to book a place.

Ewhurst United Football Club took on an older Salehurst team last Saturday but despite playing well lost 6:0. The referee was Tom Saunders and Dillon Harley came in for special mention from Ewhurst coach Dave Perkins. The long awaited rain managed to hold off until after the match, by which time the teams with their parents were enjoying hot drinks in the pavilion. Tomorrow (Saturday) it will be practise time in preparation for the March 24 tournament against Sandhurst Baptist team.

Following last Saturday’s jumble sale in the village hall, there is to be another one on Saturday March 24, so time to start sorting out those items of no longer use to you, but very useful to someone else. This is a shared fundraising event between Staplecross Bowls Club and the Bonfire Society.

There have been a number of instances in the locality of people receiving telephone calls indicating there are problems with their computers. This is a Scam. The caller suggests the computer is turned on and asks for the password in order for “the problem to be sorted”. All they want is for you to give credit card or bank details and sums of between £80-£140 will be deducted from your account and your computer will also need professional help afterwards. You have been warned!
