Ex-council office restaurant bid

A NEW restaurant could open in one of Lewes most congested roads.

A Ringmer-based company has applied for planning permission to convert a building into a ground-floor and basement restaurant and bar in Fisher Street.

The building, 3A Fisher Street, was formerly used as offices for Lewes District Council's finance department and is in the town's conservation area.

Delavals Ltd has applied for permission to change the use of the two floors from office space to a restaurant and keep offices in the floors above.

The application includes plans for glass doors, an enlarged lobby leading to the restaurant and the construction of a kitchen and basement extension on the site of an outside storage area.

One neighbour has already written to the district council about the plans.

I would have is if there was to be a take away, as cars stopping outside the building would cause noise and a hold-up of traffic.

'The building is so lovely so I do hope any alterations to the front would be in keeping with its character and that of the front area.'
