Ex-soldier backs world record skydive bid

Scott McClements, 48, was seriously injured in October 2011 when he was mugged in Brighton.

He suffered a bleed on the brain, was unable to speak or swallow and had little movement in the right side of his body.

After a period at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, and Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre, in Haywards Heath, he was sent to QAHH where he learned to walk again.

Last January, he was well enough to leave QAHH and returned to live with his mother in Ireland to continue his rehabilitation.

Scott said: “The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home took my rehabilitation to the next level. I would like to say a big thank you to all the carers and trained nurses that looked after me.

“There are a few nurses I hold deeply in my heart for all they did for me not to mention the physiotherapist and other therapists. It is a fantastic place for us all to be so proud. I’d urge anyone who can to raise funds and join in.”

The aim of the skydive event is to complete at least 95 jumps on each of two days.

It will take place in Hinton, Northants, on August 1, and will end two days before the UK commemorates the First World War’s Centenary.
