EXAM RESULTS IMPROVING

Provisional Key Stage 4 results published by the Government show a continuous improvement in East Sussex pupils achieving 5or more A* - C grades at GCSE.

Since 2001 there has been a consistent upward trend in East Sussex pupils gaining 5 or more A*-C GCSE grades. The new figures also show that 44% of East Sussex schools have exceeded the national average for the percentage of pupils gaining 5 or more A*- C grades including English and maths.

Councillor Rupert Simmons, Lead Cabinet Member for Learning and School Effectiveness at East Sussex County Council, said: 'These exams help to shape the careers and choices of our young people. While we are proud to see continuous improvement in the overall 5 A*- C results, I want to see much more improvement in English and Maths, which will give our students far more control over their future careers.'
