Experience the fine art of printmaking

IF YOU appreciate the fine art of printmaking, where all the work is a handmade original, then Battle is the place to be this month.

Seven of the region’s top exponents of the art will be displaying their work at the 1066 Art Academy show Purely Original Print.

Those exhibiting are Amanda Averillo who teaches printmaking at her studio in Sissinghurst.

One of her prints entitled Horse Whisperer graces a wall at the home of author Nicolas Evans who wrote the best selling book of that name.

She was also the Best Original Print prize winner at the 2012 Pure Autumn Art Fair.

She is joined by Louisa Crispin ACGE of Hawkhurst who is not only an excellent printmaker but is also a talented silversmith, designing intricate and delicate jewellery.

Christine Hopkins SGFA has been elected to the General Council of the Society of Graphic Fine Art and is chairman of the North Weald Art Group while Vincent Matthews ASGFA of Northiam was elected an Associate Member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art in May last year.

Michael Stott of Rye is a founding member of the Rye Harbour Artists Group and member of the Rye Society of Artists who still uses a press which is over 200 years old.

His etchings of local scenes are much sought after.

Artist Ali Stump of Cranbrook has had her prints selected for ‘Bite’ at the Mall Galleries, London, and for the RE Open at Bankside Gallery, London.

Completing the line up is Birgitta Wilson of Staplehurst whose ‘Wish’ edition of 20 prints in Prussian blue was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and were all sold on the first day.

The exhibition is being held in the 1066 Art Academy Gallery and Studio inside Costa Coffee in Battle High Street on each Thursday, Friday and Saturday from tomorrow (July 6) to July 27.
