Experts to talk at ME conference

A CONFERENCE about the debilitating illness ME will be held in Worthing where some of the country's top experts on the condition will give talks.

The Chronic Fatigue Society, called reMEmber, will be hosting the event on Friday at The Barn, Field Place, starting at 2pm.

Professor Anthony Pinching, associate dean for Cornwall of the Peninsula Medical School Cornwall and one of the country's foremost experts on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, will speak, as will Dr Kamal Patel, consultant paediatrician of the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children, in Brighton.

reMEmber also runs self-management courses for CFS/ME patients, including young people aged 14 upwards and their carers.

The course helps people to manage this long term and debilitating illness so that they do not become too exhausted and can enjoy a reasonable lifestyle. Subjects covered include goal setting and action planning, pacing and relaxation, managing stress, assertiveness, problem solving, medicines management and healthy eating.

The next course will be held at Dove Lodge Community Centre, Beach Road, Littlehampton, starting on Tuesday May 10. The course consists of a two-hour session once a week for six weeks.
