Explorer scout to receive top award at Windsor castle

Bexhillian Archie Meikle, is to receive the Queen’s Scout Award for his endeavours as an Explorer Scout.

Archie, who first joined the Little Common Scout group aged six, will be presented with his award by a member of the Royal Family at Windsor castle later in the summer.

The Queen Scout Award (QSA) and the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award are the highest accolades a young person can achieve in Scouting and the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

Archie says he’s enjoyed taking part in many activities to count towards the QSA and made some great friends. “Aged fourteen I spent a month painting a school rural Uganda with another scout from Little Common and others from around the UK, having raised the money for the school’s construction,” he said. “I also attended the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden with 40,000 other scouts from almost every country on the planet. The expedition part of the award required me to spend some slightly damp weeks in the Brecon Beacons and Peak District, having to be totally self sufficient and navigate through the mountains. I am very grateful to all the adults in scouting who have helped me achieve the Queen Scouts Award and enjoyed myself whilst doing it.”
