Exploring the Wild Neighbourhood

Thanks to a £1,500 donation from the Southern Co-operative's '˜My Wild Neighbourhood' campaign, Sussex Wildlife Trust has been able to develop its work with youngsters in Horsham.

Nature Tots aged 3-5 years are getting outdoors for muddy fun and finding out all about their local wildlife while boosting confidence, social skills and physical co-ordination.

A portion of the funds has been used to buy extra tools and equipment for Sussex Wildlife Trust’s new Nature Tots group at Chesworth Farm, Horsham; a kettle for the campfire, buckets and trowels for the mud café, and bowsaws for making wooden medallions and miniature tractor wheels. Tamara Jewell, Nature Tots Leader at Chesworth Farm said: ‘Having extra equipment means the Tots don’t need to queue for their turn – and we all know how patient a three-year old can be when waiting to get their hands on something new and exciting! We’ve also been able to splash out on healthy fruit kebab snacks, which have gone down well with the Tots and their parents.’

The campaign is supported by proceeds from the 5p carrier bag levy collected by the Southern Co-operative who also donated a further £1,500 to support Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Youth Ranger work. Donations were distributed to Sussex Wildlife Trust and other Wildlife Trusts in the south east.
