Extension to Bersted site approved

A PROPOSED extension to a caravan site in Bersted has been approved by councillors.

Carl Lineton’s plan to provide space for another 12 mobile homes at Shripney Garden Caravan Park was backed unanimously.

Arun District Council’s development sub-committee made the decision after a panel of its members backed the extension on a visit to the site off Shripney Lane.

Cllr Elaine Stainton (Felpham West), the panel’s vice-chairman, said: “We took a lot of time on this. It was a difficult decision.”

She explained the panel’s decision was influenced by Mr Lineton’s offer to move two of the bases for the mobile homes away from the nearest neighbouring property and to plant hedging to reduce the homes’ impact.

Mr Lineton received planning permission in 2010 to extend his site but he sought to amend that by adding a further 17m of land to the south. This was fiercely resisted by neighbouring residents to cause members to defer a decision previously.
