Fair play to town's Fairtraders

AROUND 100 different food products were on display at the Fairtrade stall outside Bexhill library at the weekend.

This was part of Fairtrade fortnight activity around Bexhill as campaigners continued to spread the word about the benefits of buying ethically-produced goods.

These included ranges of tea, coffee, raisins, fruit, chocolates, biscuits, cereals, and juice, and free tastings of Co-op chocolates which were much appreciated according to spokesman Jack Doherty.

Jack said: “There was a wonderful range of soap products, lip balms, body butters, and so on from local Hastings outlet, Visionary Soap, using all Fairtrade sourced ingredients from four continents.

“There were free samples of end cuts and they smelt so good that two people were so carried away with the cinnamon and orange scented soap that they mistakingly took a bite of the brown chocolate looking one. Slightly foaming at the mouth they readily admitted that it even tasted good.”

Many passers-by completed messages on bunting with the slogan ‘For a better world’ being a common theme.

These pieces of bunting will be put together at the De La Warr Pavilion on Sunday at 12.15pm as Bexhill’s contribution to the Fairtrade Foundation’s world record attempt for the longest bunting.
