In our churches this Sunday, September 8… we will have an 8 am service of Holy Communion at St Peter’s. Rev Kay Burnett will be leading this 1662 Book of Common Prayer service for those who like their Communion in the traditional style.

Then, at 10.30 am at St Andrew’s, there is a service of Morning Praise, led by Rev Kay Burnett and Meriel Deasey.

The next Fairfest Music and Arts Festival… will be coming along at the end of July 2014. And as it is rapidly nearing the end of the current year’s barbeque season, the Fairfest team would like to know if you, or any of your friends, have a gas BBQ they have decided to part with. Ideally, the team are seeking a model suitable for catering for large numbers, possibly with a solid griddle, which would be ideal for burgers. Trefoil in Fairlight in August…At their meeting on the Wednesday of last week, Maria Reardon, the Sussex East Trefoil Guild County Co-ordinator, gave a very comprehensive and informative talk on the Dark Horse and Discovery Awards. Those who made it to the meeting were very enthusiastic to ‘have a go’, though unfortunately three members were unable to make the meeting. These awards are geared for the over 50’s and encourage members to look further afield to keep their hands and minds active. They are very much along the lines of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, but not nearly so energetic or time consuming!

Next month’s meeting is to be held at a later time and will be in the home of one of our members, and will be for members only, with all sharing lunch together .

Oh, yes it is…! Autumn must be almost with us, as the Pantomime Group will very shortly be holding their Auditions for the January 2014 production, which will be Sleeping Beauty. The date, which should go into your diary or onto your fridge now, is Friday, September 27, in the village hall. Timings are 7 pm for all children who wish to take part, followed by adults at 7.30 pm. Posters to remind you will be going up next week. This production is to be directed by Jennifer Annetts and, if you are unable to make the auditions but would still like to be involved, or to find out more about what goes on in the panto season, then please contact Jennifer on 812476, or by email to [email protected]. Now where have I read that before…?

Good for the soul… the Village Choir has begun a series of weekly meetings (last Monday, actually, so you’ve missed the first one) which continue on the next five Mondays. There will then be three weeks off, followed by a further six week series The Village Choir is now meeting every week for 6 weeks from Monday September 2nd. This will be followed by 3 weeks off and then another 6 weeks of meetings. I hope you’re following all this! The meetings are, as ever, at Pett Methodist Church at 7.30 pm, and the weekly subs will be £1.50. The first sessions will culminate in a concert at Pett Parish Church on Sunday, October 13 at 3.30 pm. Don’t worry, you’ll get reminders nearer the time.

And more Village Choir news… They’ll be having an Afternoon Tea at Pett Chapel from 2.30 to 5 pm on Sunday, September 15. All are welcome to go along! Join them in the garden.

Back in Activate action… The Activate Youth Club has had its summer break, though some members have already been getting together to start rehearsing for their next show. Club nights start on Tuesday, September 10 and Thursday 12. Busyart, the art and craft club for younger children, opens on Monday 9 at 3.45 pm.

Coffee tomorrow… at a Quiz Coffee Morning in support of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

At the village hall from 10 am to 12 Noon on Saturday, September 7. There’ll be a Pub & Inn Signs Quiz to exercise your brain while you get your caffeine intake, and also a raffle to raise funds for the British Legion.

Admire the view… This is the last month of the season for climbing the church tower at St Andrew’s. It will be open on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of September, and it will cost you a suggested donation of £2 per adult. Children go free, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. During the good weather, with pin-sharp visibility, there have been some astonishing and marvellous views. This is not surprising when you consider the vast array of places, particularly east and north of here, from which you can see the church tower. So if you’re quick, you may see yourself coming back…

Here we go round the mulberry bush again… with the Parents and Toddlers Teddy Bear Club. The club meets every Tuesday during school term time at St. Peter’s Church on Broadway, from 10.30 am to 12 Noon. This small, friendly group welcomes all under 5’s with their parents or grandparents, and recommences on Tuesday next, September 10. Fairlight Players… are moving towards their first social function of the autumn, which will be a Murder Mystery Supper evening on Saturday, October 12. They’ll be inviting you to work out Who killed the Hotel Manager?, and to enjoy a supper while you’re doing it. Tickets, prices and timings will be out soon, here in Village Voice and by means of posters and emails and, as last year’s mystery was a sell-out with people waiting for returns, it might be a good idea to claim your places early.
