Fairlight cyclist killed in Mercedes collision

A 50 year old Fairlight woman died after her electrically assisted pedal cycle was in collision with a Mercedes car at Rye on Friday night.

She has been named as Sally Lofill, aged 50, from Meadow Way, Fairlight.

The collision happened at 12.33pm on the A259, New Winchelsea Road, approximately 500 metres south of the junction with Harbour Road.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 23 year old local man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was interviewed and bailed until 31st August 2007 pending further enquiries.

The road was closed for eight hours to allow for a thorough examination of the scene and investigation.
