Hurry! Hurry!! Hurry!!! Get along to The Really Green Recycle Sale at Pett Methodist Chapel tomorrow, Saturday, April 21, for some great bargains. They’ll be available for you to buy from 1.30 to 3 pm. If you have any Really Good Items that you would like to see re-homed just call Wendy and Ken on 812297 today. It’s a bit late in the day, so I suppose you could take them with you when you go tomorrow!

Bowling along… The Bowls Club’s season officially gets under way tomorrow, Saturday April 21 when The Green is officially opened for the first time this year. As usual, there is a very busy season to look forward to with various Club competitions and approximately 70 matches to be played against nearby clubs on a home and away basis. The highlight of the season will be the Club’s ‘Open Tournament’ which will be held on Sunday, July 1 in aid of the praiseworthy ‘Help for Heroes’ charity. This event, of which more anon, will again be generously sponsored by the Brickwall Hotel in Sedlescombe.

Anyone interested in playing this fascinating sport will be made extremely welcome on the opening day, which commences at 2.30 pm. All enquiries should be made by contacting the Club Chairman Brian Watts on 814732.

Early doors… The Art Club Exhibition will be mounted in the village hall from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, May 12. There’s to be wine! Not that you will need a wine boost for, if you’ve never seen their exhibitions, be assured that their output is staggeringly good. Especially to someone whose art is like the Matchstick Men meet Picasso. Tickets will be available on the door at £3.50, while the canny will purchase prior to the event from the sponsors, Just Property, where they will cost you £3

Even earlier doors… Pett Level Rescue Boat will be holding an auction in the village hall (here, not in Pett) on Friday, May 25 at 7.30 pm. I’ll remind you later about date and time, and that entrance is free, though of course donations would be more than welcome. Why tell you now? Because they would like to receive items for the auction, so please let event organiser John Pulfer know what you can offer. John is on 814866.

One week to go… until the Players’ April production, which will run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 26 – 28. Entitled The Murder of Maria Marten, the show is a melodrama with some serious moments (as the title suggests) but with heaps of laughs in a broad style that has had everybody who has seen it in rehearsal in absolute fits. There’s live music, too. Why not go along and have a good laugh – we all deserve one at present, don’t we?

A demonstration… at the Floral Club’s meeting next Thursday, April 26 at 2.30 pm in the village hall is entitled Particularly Floral, and will be presented by Debbie Dann. All will be welcome, so if you have an inkling that you’d like to try your hand at floral arrangement, why not go along and see what you might be achieving!

Mopps up for the 40’s… Next Friday, April 27, MOPPS are having a 1940’s competition, which is to be judged by Charles Perez, a Partner in Just Property in the village, and yours truly, Keith Pollard. The work that MOPPS do is very highly regarded, and they do have a few vacancies for some of our older folk. Please contact organiser Sheila Thomas on 01304 219767 for details of how you could be joining in. Each Friday there is a traditional fresh-cooked meal prepared by the group’s Chef Margaret McCloud, and there is always entertainment or exercising (gentle!) or advice sessions, plus the chance of a good natter.

The Annual Parish Assembly… will be happening next Tuesday, April 24 in the village hall commencing at 8 pm. A full agenda has been prepared and, before the Open Forum at the end of the meeting, there will have been reports from the Parish Council, and the County and District Councillors. There is also an item to consider Resolutions, though by the time you read this it will be too late to comply with the seven-day notice period mandatory for submissions.

A busy week for local politics… our MP Amber Rudd will be at the village hall on Friday 27 from 3 to 4 pm, with County Councillor Carl Maynard, District Councillors Robin Patten and Roger Bird Chairman of Parish Council Andrew Mier all in attendance as well. After this meeting, Amber Rudd will be holding a constituency surgery and, if you would like to speak with her you will have to make an appointment. You can do this by calling 205435

Hello, hello, hello… Next Wednesday morning, April 25 at 10 am, you will be able to meet our PCSO Sharon Aldridge. Sharon will be at the village hall to discuss any policing or community problems you might like to share with her. Or you could just pop in to say hello, hello, hello…

The hosepipe ban, continued… You may already be aware that Blue Badge holders are exempt from the water restrictions but, not unreasonably, Southern Water points out that it does not hold details of customers with blue badges so it would do no harm for holders to notify the water company so that, if they are contacted by another member of the public saying someone is using a hosepipe, they will be aware of the blue badge.

There are certain conditions that must be met if you are using trickle irrigations systems, and customers need to contact Southern Water to have these conditions clarified. Please get in touch with Penny Hodge, their PR Manager, on 01903 272015
