Making perfect…? This month was practice time for the Floral Club, with the chosen subject being ‘Spring Forward’. Many ingenious ideas came to the fore, with one member using an old car spring which was laid on its side on a floral tray and filled with flowers between each of the coils. Another member had a very nice dish which was placed on top of a sprung stand, while others used floral accessories and twisted wire in which they placed the stems of their flowers. Some simply depicted that spring was just around the corner! Among the many efforts on show were excellent arrangements by two of the Club’s newest members. The hall looked very colourful with all the yellows, reds, blues, whites, and pinks - and the perfume was lovely. Yes, they certainly did bring Spring Forward on Thursday afternoon.

Arrangements are also in hand for their March meeting, at 2.30 pm on Thursday, March 22 in the Village Hall, to be the Club’s Annual General Meeting.

The inaugural get-together of the new co-operative, which will be working 2½ acres directly opposite Waites Lane, commencing this spring, took place last Saturday, and land owner and organiser explained the project to some dozen people. Others have already indicated their interest, and taken enrolment forms, but were unable to be present. If you, slightly belatedly, decide you would like to be part in the growing, tending and sharing of flowers, herbs and vegetables, your best bet is to contact Joanna on 07976 845768, or send an email to [email protected], and you could be on the waiting list. The land to be used will be carefully prepared for the participants, and everything undertaken is to comply with Soil Association rules and guidelines for organic soil. Planting will be under the aegis of Rosa, who hails from Madrid, so no “hasta la vista” until you’re going home! Produce will be shared fortnightly, depending on what is in season, and will take place in Hastings as well as Fairlight, for those taking part will come from location s other than our home village. The Tuesday Ladies’ Club… were roundly entertained by local historian Haydon Luke. His take on this occasion was entitled Fairlight meets Downton Abbey, Birdsong and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Those present agreed it was a humdinger of a talk, and they all recommended that, if you missed it here, you should try to catch Haydon when he delivers this talk at another club.

Last hoarders… The Literary Society played host to local author Charlotte Moore, who has three novels and three other books to her name, among which is the story of her family home (for 120 years) called Hancox, which is in Battle. The afternoon was well filled - no Hancox’ Half Hour here! – and everyone was fascinated. Next Wednesday, March 7, the speaker will be Patrick Coulcher, describing ‘My Life as a Pilot’. It will be chocks away at 2.30 pm!

Also next Wednesday… but into the evening, it’s the Activate A.G.M. on Wednesday March 7th at the clubhouse on the recreation ground at 7.30 pm.

Eyes down… A couple of days later, Activate is in the village hall, running a Bingo session, with a ploughman’s supper, a bar and a raffle, starting at 7.30 pm. That’s Friday, March 9.

Any questions… Yes, several, with the Players’ Quiz coming up on Saturday, March 24 at 7.30 pm in the village hall. The quiz will be accompanied by one of the Players’ much appreciated suppers, plus bar and raffle. Full details of ticket prices and availability will be out very shortly!

The trouble with our Parish Council… is that they meet mere hours after the Village Voice deadline! Anyway, it does mean that there should be some nice little nuggets of news ready by the time we get to next week’s edition. Watch this space!
