Fairtrade Fortnight

There was a 'magnificent' response to Fairtrade Fortnight in Bexhill according to organisers.

The campaign was supported by schools, churches, cafes, businesses, clubs and shops, and young and old took part throughout.

Many schools held Fairtrade assemblies, fairs, and mufti days, and pupils worked on art projects and making bunting. St Richard’s and Bexhill High had Fairtrade stalls every day and reported good sales of a large range of products.

A number of churches took part by holding fairtrade breakfasts and discussions and Bexhill library had a day session with fairtrade input.

Some cafes displayed posters and had fairtrade offers, and shops promoted many products such as Easter eggs.

There were fairtrade stalls at the Farmers market and in Western Road with tastings of a number of products.

Lesley Shareif, vice-chair of the fairtrade Town committee and manager of the website www.bexhillfairtrade.couk, said: “We are very grateful for the magnificent response of the people of Bexhill, the pupils and staff of schools, leaders in Faith groups, retailers and cafes.”
