Fairy livid

A STUDENT cooked up a storm when she was thrown out of a restaurant for being dressed as a fairy.

Samantha Allen was ejected from The Arundel Room restaurant, at Northbrook College, Littlehampton Road, Worthing, when she arrived for a meal wearing pink hair extensions, a black and white doll's dress, white leggings and black stilettoes.

The 18-year-old, from Shoreham, who had booked the table in March, was looking forward to a high-class meal at the restaurant run by GNVQ students at the college.

But all that turned sour when she arrived at the eaterie with friend Emma Beam and was told by the manager to sit at a table in the corner, or leave, because her dress offended other diners.

"I was told the way I was dressed offended other guests," said Miss Allen.

"He said 'you can either leave or sit in the corner and not move for the rest of the meal'. I wasn't going to be banished to the corner of the room, so I left."

After the incident, Miss Allen fumed: "I was disgusted. He is a teacher and should have had more self-control. I have been to catering college before dressed like this, wearing hair extensions, and I've never been turned away before."

Miss Beam, 18, from Shoreham, who was wearing high boots and a red and black tutu, said: "First of all, I was shocked. I thought, 'he can't possibly do that'.

"We had been talking to other guests and they weren't offended by us. I could understand it if they made a complaint, but they didn't."

Mary Richard, college hospitality and catering manager, denied the girls had been asked to leave.

She said: "My understanding was that they were actually asked not to sit among the formal party in the lounge bar and provision was made for them in the restaurant.

"We have a formal dress code depending on the level of service at a function. People normally dress appropriately if they have booked."
