EXHIBITION: We spent a couple of days in London last week and managed to go and see an exhibition of Edward Ardizzone illustrations at the House of Illustration gallery. It was a lovely exhibition showing Ardizzone's work during the war as a war artist and his delightful illustrations to the Little Tim books and also to the children's poetry of James Reeves. This brought to mind the time when I lived in Lewes and the Cliffe Bookshop had a signing session with James Reeves who lived in Rotten Row and (I think) Ardizzone himself. It may very well have been the poetry book he was signing as it was published around this time. My husband has managed to get hold of a copy of the poetry book and I am looking forward to reading it and enjoying the illustrations.

CHRISTMAS FAIR: Last weekend’s Christmas Fair went well in spite of strong competition from the racecourse and the Amex Stadium, both of which had their own Christmas fairs. We had a fair few customers who came to us after visiting the others, and while we had fewer stalls (obviously), I am sure the quality of the wares on offer was just as good. I am sure people enjoyed the atmosphere, and the home-made soup, tea and cake at our event. Stall holders were happy with their sales and keen to be included in future events and we made an excellent sum in aid of St Laurence.

CONCERT: The next auction at the Falmer Auction rooms will take place on November 30, with a viewing on November 29. I am still seeking some kitchen chairs, so I will be having a look. The café is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm.
