FALMER LADIES: Peter Hill returned to Falmer Ladies to talk of his trip to Canada, which was entitled Through the Rockies to the Prairies. Peter is a very entertaining speaker and we were with him all the way, through the Banff National Park, watching the osprey on top of the telegraph poles, seeing bighorn sheep, elk, even a brown bear. Many of the members had been to visit Canada and it brought back many memories for us all, especially for me the Athabaskan Glacier. The next meeting of the Ladies Group is June 14, when, weather permitting, we shall be taking a walk along the Seaford sea front, leaving Falmer at 6pm.

BRIGHTON FESTIVAL: The Brighton Festival has only one more week to run and the streets of Brighton have been buzzing, there has been such a sense of fun. Last Friday, the sun was shining, and we had lunch in the Pavilion Gardens, behind us we could hear live music being played on the New Road, in the Park itself a group of young girls were performing Titus and Adronicus, this was all free entertainment, and on Sunday we heard an amazing performance of The Dream of Gerontius performed at the Dome by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Brighton Festival Chorus.

CONCERT: Falmer is privileged to be a part of the Brighton Fringe Festival and the last concert associated with the festival will take place tomorrow, Saturday, at 5.30pm in St Laurence Church entitled: To Him Let Us Garlands Bring - a Celebration of Shakespeare in Song, works from 16th to 20th century by amongst others, Purcell, Haydn, Sullivan and Corngold. Sue Mileham soprano, Nicola Grunberg piano. A free concert with a retiring collection.

BIRDS: I have written before about the sparrow taking over the house martins nest, but today, I am hoping that the attached nest, made last year, is being surveyed by the house martins, they seem to have flown in an out, and I am hoping that they will again occupy the nest, it will be interesting to see.

MISSING CAT: We have just had a neighbour knocking on the door asking if we have seen her black and white cat Mia. Mia lives on Mill Street and is often seen sitting on the flint wall or walking up the road, she has ben missing for two days, and we are hoping that she will soon be found. She has been known to visit other people’s sheds and even the stables.
