Falmer

FALMER CONCERTS: The last concert we had two weeks ago was just amazing, the quality of the artists who give us their time to perform is of such high standard and it was very rewarding to see so many people who came to listen. The next concert by The Brighton Community Choir is on March 19 at 5.30pm in St Laurence Church, we have been promised some audience participation.

FALMER LADIES GROUP: Due to family illness the speaker who was booked had to cancel but we were given the opportunity to watch the film Mrs Henderson Presents with Judy Dench. It was a charming film and everyone enjoyed it. The next meeting on March 15, we are looking forward to seeing John Burt’s old Falmer postcards, which have been put onto a DVD for projection onto a large screen. I have seen them before and they are fascinating. Everyone is welcome to come to the Parish Hall at 7.30pm.

COFFEE MORNING: Tomorrow, Saturday, a coffee morning from 10am to 1pm will be held in the Parish Hall to raise money for the Leprosy Mission in Nepal who are trying to raise money to rebuild their school and hospital after the terrible earthquake in Nepal last year. We are hoping that as many people as possible will come to support them. We have many offers of homemade cakes and cheese scones.

FOOTBRIDGE: The rebuilding of the footbridge ramp is still ongoing and so far the villagers are coping with the disruption, but sadly there are those outside the village who are not aware that buses from Lewes at the moment do not stop in Falmer. One lady who came to the last concert from Lewes, was unaware that the bus stop was not in use and had to dismount at Falmer Station. On managing to cross to the opposite side of the road, she was disorientated by the University Roads, and eventually managed to walk up to Falmer taking her 30 minutes. It might just be a good idea to have a leaflet on the bus to give to people who are unsure how to reach Falmer from the Station. Perhaps the bus service would do this?
