Family business celebrates first anniversary

A MOTHER and daughter, who run their own cake shop, recently celebrated their businesses first anniversary.

Cathy said: “I am very happy. It has been a learning curve but we seem to be getting on fine. We have quite a good customer base so we are grateful for that.”

To celebrate the occasion there was a small party in the shop. Cupcakes were given away and there was champagne on hand.

The company specialises in making homemade cupcakes and cakes to order.

Cathy continued: “We have renewed the lease and we will keep going. Hopefully we will get stronger and stronger.

“We started from home. We baked from home for a year and a half. We got too busy so we decided to bite the bullet in the middle of the recession and we have been doing really well.”

This is not the first time Cathy and Shirley have worked together, having previously ran a café.

“I am very proud of what we have achieved. I have worked with my mum before so we get on fine. It is always nice to work with someone you like,” said Cathy.

Cakes sold in the shop include individual muffin-sized cupcakes all the way through to giant cupcakes, which between 12-16 people.
