Family of grandmother who died in Cranleigh crash thank emergency services

The family of a woman who died following a collision in Cranleigh have written a letter of thanks to the community.

Jeanne Newbery, aged 85, was fatally injured in a crash involving a Honda Civic in Ewhurst Road at 2.25pm on Tuesday October 20.

A statement from her family, released today, said: “We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the caring local people who tried to assist our mother Jeanne Newbery, who sadly died in the road accident in Cranleigh village centre on 20 October.

“Our particular thanks to the doctors who rushed over from Cranleigh Medical Practice to help and to the emergency services including the air ambulance and Surrey Police.

“Jeanne Newbery was a much loved mother of four and grandmother of eight children. She loved Cranleigh and always commented on the amazing village support and friendliness.

“She was a keen Bridge player and member of the U3A and since moving here 8 years ago had many friends in the village.

“Our family has been overwhelmed by the flowers and messages of sympathy from so many people, some of whom we know but many we do not. Especially touching were the flowers bought with pocket money by young Glebelands schoolchildren who went into Dobbe’s florists to buy a flower and write a message.

“May we also express our best wishes for the couple in the car and wish them a full recovery.

“In recognition of the work of the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust we would like any donations to go to them. Hopefully they have saved two lives and would have been there for our mother if she had been less severely injured.”
