The Webb family, from Bucks Green, have raised more than £4,100 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, towering their original target of £1,000.

It is a fitting tribute to Geoff Webb who died from lymphoma last November at the age of 49, having worked in drug research for most of his life.

Geoff’s wife Julia Webb, said: “We set off in the drizzle on September 1 at Winchester, and finished in pouring rain on October 12 in Eastbourne.”

Julia, sons Ed and Dan, and friend Kate Wilford were supported by 50 friends and five dogs who accompanied them along the route.

Their supporters included members of the Horsham branch of the lymphoma research charity, of which Julia is now a committee member.

Julia said: “There were people there from all different walks of my life and new friendships were formed.”

The family had just one weekend off, when Julia drove her eldest son Ed, 18, to freshers’ week at Sheffield University.

His mother added: “Ed came with us for a couple of days before he had to go to university. He did very well and Geoff would be proud.”

More friends joined Julia, Dan and Kate at the finish line, where they celebrated with champagne and nibbles while sheltering from the rain.

Julia added: “I would like to thank everyone who came along and I would like to thank everybody who has donated.”

She added that Geoff would be proud. Lymphomas are the fifth most common cancer in the UK.
