Farm Diary

COLD and dry, and infinitely better than the downpours of the last two or three weeks, that's for sure; healthy weather for man and beast.

Now that the ground is drying out, we can get on with muckspreading and ploughing some of the maize fields, so that the soil is weathered by the spring, making for a finer seed bed.

The cows are all looking forward to Christmas, and are not in the slightest bit worried about how much they eat!

Neither am I, nor to continue the positive nature of this week's (short) column, should you be. It has now been discovered (surprise surprise) that fitness is what matters, not size. An unfit thin man is twice as likely to have health problems or die, than a fit fat man.

Strike me down with a peacock feather! This will take some explaining. All that nonsense about diets and food, when naturally enough, if you're fit, you're fine. Tuck into that turkey, have a few drinks, but follow it with a brisk walk.
