Fears for planned Gatwick upgrade

CONCERNS that a planned upgrade of Gatwick airport railway station might not be completed in time for the 2012 Olympics have prompted two council leaders to tackle Network Rail on the subject.

Henry Smith of West Sussex County Council and Bob Lanzer of Crawley Borough Council, have joined forces to ask Network Rail for an assurance that work will be done in time.

A joint letter to the company follows a national report from the Rail Regulator casting doubts on the amount of funding Network Rail would have to carry out all its planned schemes between 2009-2014.
