Feast Of Fun

CROWDS flocked to Littlehampton's Rosemead Open Space on Saturday for a feast of family fun.

Bouncy castles, wall-to-wall entertainment and a fantastic dog show were just some of the attractions luring people to the recreation area in their droves.

Chairman of Littlehampton Town Council community resources committee John Singleton, was delighted with Saturday's huge success:

"The turn-out was absolutely superb and we were really lucky with the weather.

"Everything went without a hitch, it was really a great community event."

The fun day was held to mark the public open space being handed over to Littlehampton Town Council from Arun District Council.

It really was entertainment all the way, with events in the arena alternating with music performed in the inflatable bandstand.

The events were compered by well-known Littlehampton personalities Eileen Chandler and ex-mayor Mark Butler, who kept the momentum going with their seamless patter.

The much publicised Scrufts competition was a great success, thanks to Gary Smart, who donated gift vouchers to the winners.

Judging was by John Sharwood, who awarded first place in the under-10s to Cavalier King Charles spaniel Darcy, owned by Gabrielle Helyer. Susie the Labrador, owned by Chloe Roberts, came second.

There were seven entries in the under-16s, but it was Isla the Labrador, owned by Sky Maddocks, that impressed the judges the most.

In second place was Jack Russell cross Bewley, owned by Jessica Robins, and Samantha White's springer Mylo was awarded third prize.

The open class had five entries, and was won by Susie the corgi, owned by Mary Boyt.

Anita Bono's cairn, Macy, came second and Holly the collie cross, owned by Freda Page, came third.

John Singleton wanted to thank everyone who came and supported the event, and the town council staff for their excellent organisation. He said this would be the first of many community entertainments.

"The next major event we have planned will be in spring next year to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Littlehampton becoming a town," he added.
