Felpham scouts head for camp in Finland

A group of 1st Felpham Sea Scouts are heading to Finland.

The 14-strong contingent will be attending Satahanka 2008 from today (Monday, July 28) as part of a multi-national camp at Sauvo near Turku.

During their visit, they will be sailing around the Finnish islands and kayaking.

Some scouts will also be staying on after the camp ends on August 4 to live with Finnish families to experience their way of life.

The Felpham sea scouts will be joined by two from Somerset and two from Scotland.

They will practise various nautical tasks such as navigating and sailing in different vessels.

The team from Felpham has prepared well for the expedition by learning sailing, kayaking, orienteering and survival skills.

Their unit of more than 100 cubs, scouts, beavers and explorers has a fleet of sailing dinghies and a safety boat which can be seen off Felpham Sailing Club every Wednesday evening in the summer, weather permitting.
