Felpham sea scouts among best at swimming gala

SWIMMERS from 1st Felpham Sea Scout Group were among the top finishers at a national gala.

Tom Holland led the way with a first place in the u-18 breaststroke in the RN Recognised Sea Scout swimming gala. 1st Felpham also came first in the u-18 medley relay.

Oliver Grubb came third in the u-18 freestyle as part of a strong performance in the age group which took the Felpham Sea Scouts team of Tom Holland, Oliver Grubb and Rachel Farrant from its Explorer unit to second place overall.

In the u-16s, James Slater was the runner-up in the breaststroke.

The successes continued a tradition of wins in the annual gala by Felpham swimmers.

The Explorers were cheered on by 1st Felpham Sea Scouts, aged ten to 14, who also took part in the gala.

The event is open to the 101 RN Recognised Sea Scout groups from around the UK and eagerly contested. It is held at HMS Raleigh, the naval training base, near Plymouth.
