Festival returns to brighten town for a fourth year

THERE will be some strange and wonderful sights around Battle from Monday, as the town welcomes the fourth annual Battle Scarecrow Festival.

The much-anticipated event will see an army of scarecrows showing off their athletic prowess as this year’s festival has the theme Battle Going for Gold.

Community groups across town have been frantically putting the finishing touches on their creations this week, with prizes going to the scarecrows which capture the judges’ imaginations.

There will also be the opportunity for the public to vote for their favourite, with trail leaflets available from most of the supporting businesses and the Tourist Information Centre at Yesterday’s World.

The festival starts on Monday and will run until July 21.

But for anyone who just can’t wait for Monday, there will also be a repeat of the scarecrow workshop which proved popular at the town’s recent Mediaeval Fayre at the Battel Bonfire Boyes Summer Fayre tomorrow (Saturday).

This year the festival is supporting Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

A street collection in aid of Demelza will take place in Battle on Friday July 6.
