Festival time at Fairlight

Sunday July 27 sees the third Fairfest event.

Originally started to celebrate the music and arts talent in the village, it is now a bi-annual event held on the recreation ground at the top of Commanders Walk.

This year promises to be bigger and better with an action packed programme of arena events and live music from noon until 10pm.

The BBQ and bar will be open all afternoon and evening.

Fairfest is a free community event sponsored by local businesses and associations. There is a small charge of 50p for the programme, which are on sale at Fairlight Post Office.

The day starts at 11.45 at the Circle in Shepherds Way where a marching band and children in fancy dress will gather to follow the new Fairfest King and Queen as they ride to the recreation ground in their silver carriage. Once there the parade will enter the main arena where the King and Queen will open the Festival followed by judging the children in their fancy dress outfits.

During the afternoon you can watch the events in the main marquee and arena, enter your dog in the RSPCA show, practice archery or try and win a coconut.

There will be many stalls selling home-made goods and crafts and over 35 classic cars and motor bikes.

There is an impressive line-up of live music featuring local talent from late afternoon until the close at 10pm.

New to Fairfest this year is the Rye Ukulele band.

Returning again is talented group Dorey The Wise. Lead singer and guitarist, Aidan Tigwell still has family in Fairlight and has a great following in the village.

Closing the evening will be popular group The Kytes.

There is a 344 bus service which runs to Fairlight from Ore and Rye. There will be parking on the recreation ground weather permitting. If you park on the road you are asked not to block driveways.
