Fight causes cab to crash into Barnham garden

A TAXI crashed into the garden of a Barnham home, as the driver and passenger fought in the car.

The car ended up in bushes at the Barnham Road house at about 3.30am on Sunday morning.

Sgt Peter Allan, of Littlehampton Police, said that a male passenger was picked up from Thursday's nightclub in Chichester, and asked to be taken to Walberton.

When it arrived in the village, the man seemed unsure of where he wanted to be dropped off, and became violent, punching and kicking the driver and the cab, before the driver offered him to take him back to the club.

As the car moved through Barnham, the passenger continued to attack the driver, and the car crashed into the garden, near the road's junction with Elm Grove.

The driver was taken to St Richard's Hospital, in Chichester, by ambulance and discharged the following day. He suffered a fractured finger, a bump on the head, needed four stitches in his lip and had a bite mark on his arm.

A 21-year-old Walberton man was arrested in relation to the incident, and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
